Midwest Roots: A Remodel Close to My Heart

May 27, 2025

With summer just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about our annual trip back to St. Louis—a tradition that grounds us in our roots and reconnects us with family. Both Will and I grew up in STL, and while Arizona is now home, the Midwest will always hold a special place in our hearts. This particular remodel brings back a wave of nostalgia because it was completed in the same area where so many of our early memories were made. It’s always a privilege to work on projects that blend personal history with professional passion, and this one was no exception. We took a dated home and gave it a full cosmetic transformation—without changing the footprint. The goal was to brighten the space, create cohesion, and modernize it while honoring the classic charm you find in many Midwestern homes.

Design Details That Made a Difference

  • Warm woods and clean lines grounded the space while giving it a modern, livable feel.
  • The kitchen layout was reimagined with updated cabinetry, sleek quartz countertops, and new lighting that transformed the flow of the main level.
  • We paid close attention to consistency in finishes—from the flooring to the hardware—to give the home a cohesive and elevated feel.

It’s worth mentioning that the home was professionally staged after construction was complete, so while the furnishings weren’t sourced by our team, it’s always fun to see how the space is styled through someone else’s lens.

This remodel reminds me why I love what I do—bringing new life to homes, especially those that hold sentimental meaning.
